Lost keys, dead fobs, locked doors

Few things stop a day faster than a car that will not open or will not start. Most of these calls come down to one of four things: the keys are inside, the keys are gone, the fob has quit, or the ignition has worn out.

We come to where the car is parked and work from there. Tell us the make, model, and year when you call and we will say whether the job is one we can do at the curb.

Residential

Doors at home that stop doing their job

A locked-out evening, a deadbolt that jams, or a house full of keys nobody can account for. Home lock problems feel urgent because the door is the one thing between you and your own front room.

We start with the gentlest way in, explain what we find, and only recommend new hardware when a lock cannot be saved. Moving in or out? Rekeying makes every old key stop working without a new set of locks.

Storefronts, offices, and the keys behind them

A business door gets used all day, and it shows. Closers drift, latches stick, and keys end up in more pockets than anyone remembers. When a door fails, work stops until it is fixed.

We repair and rekey commercial doors, plan key systems so each person carries one key for the right doors, and open safes. Jobs can be scheduled around your hours so customers are never kept waiting outside.

The workshop rides with us

Key cutting machines, programming tools, and drawers of parts are in the van, so most jobs get finished at your car or your door instead of at a counter across town.

That is why there is a $29 trip fee and no shop to visit: the work comes to you, and the tech names the price once they have seen it.

Real jobs, short clips

These are from actual calls. Tap play to watch; the clips are silent.

  • Opening a deadbolt without drilling

Bypass tools set into a brass deadbolt and knob on a house door.

  • Fobs, ready for the car

  • Cutting a key on site

The key machine reads a fob that is clamped in place in the vehicle.

How a call goes

Three steps, in this order

  1. 1

    You call

Tell us where you are and what the lock, car, or door is doing. Details save a trip back to the van.

  2. 2

    We look, then we quote

The tech sees the work first. Once they have, you get the price, before any work starts. The $29 trip fee covers the drive.

  3. 3

    You test it

We finish the job and try it with you standing there. Keys turn, doors latch, the car starts.

Before you dial

Have this ready

A minute of detail on the phone saves the tech a trip back to the van.

  • Where you are: the address, or the nearest cross streets.
  • What is wrong: locked out, broken key, lost keys, a lock that sticks.
  • For a car: the make, model, and year.
  • For a door: house, apartment, or business, and the lock type if you can tell.
  • Proof the car or property is yours, or that you are authorized to be there.
FAQ

Before you call

What does a visit cost?

There is a $29 trip fee for the drive to you. Once the tech has seen the work, they tell you the price for the job before they start. Because every lock, car, and door is different, we don't quote the job blind over the phone.

Do you come to me, or do I bring the car or lock to a shop?

We come to you. Number One Locksmith is a mobile service, so there is no counter or waiting room. The work happens at your car, your door, or your building.

Which cities do you cover?

Sacramento and the communities around it: Citrus Heights, Carmichael, Roseville, Fair Oaks, Elk Grove, Orangevale, Folsom, Antelope, Rancho Cordova, North Highlands, Arden-Arcade, and Rio Linda. Each has its own page under service areas.

Can you make a car key if I have lost every key?

For many vehicles, yes. Tell us the make, model, and year when you call, and we will say whether it is something we can do on site. Our car key replacement page explains what we need from you.

What should I have ready when I call?

Your location, what is wrong, and for a car, the make, model, and year. If you are locked out of a home or business, be ready to show that you live or work there. We ask this to protect you and the person who owns the property.

Do you work nights and weekends?

We are listed as open 24 hours, 7 days. Call at any hour and, if we can take the job, we will tell you so on the phone. The same trip fee and the same price-before-work rule apply at any hour.
